Rustic campsites split the difference between primitive campsites and modern campsites. Rustic campsites include a firepit and designated camping area like primitive sites, but they also have a picnic table, and there is shared pit toilet, access to water, and a trash disposal location for the campground.  Birdie runs on solar, so you don't need an electrical hookup to use the inverter.

The rustic D.H. Day Campground is located in the northern district of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, on the lower peninsula of Michigan. This beautifully wooded campground is one of the most popular in northern Michigan, with easy access to the Dune Climb, the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive, and museums and the historic village of Glen Haven. and is located only 2 miles from the restaurants and shops of beautiful downtown Glen Arbor.

Leelanau State Park’s rustic campground is located directly at the tip of the Leelanau Peninsula. The rocky beach, rustic campsites and big trees give this campground a cool and unique vibe. About half of the campsites are located right on the water and the others are tucked into the woods with a little more privacy and views of the lake.  There is access to drinking water and a place to fill trailers with potable water. There are no electricity, modern restrooms or showers available.
